About

I have a confession to make.

I am deeply, passionately, completely in love with fabric.

Yes, I'm that girl. The one who walks into JoAnn Fabrics, stops, stares at all the glorious material, and lets out a long happy sigh. Conversely, I'm also the girl who knows the store so well I can get in, grab my notions, and get back out in under ten minutes.

My name is Elizabeth Hajek and I'm a freelance costumer and writer who has been sewing and designing works of art out of fabric for close to two decades. I can often be found with needle, thread and sewing sheers creating some new costume or altering a piece of existing clothing. I'm currently working on starting a business that utilizes this passion.

This blog is a peek into the world of a seamstress and how someone who creates clothing perceives fashion and costume choices in the media.

I love a wide variety of clothing styles. I've done costumes based on Once Upon a Time, Game of Thrones, X-Men, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Narnia, Beauty and the Beast, Little Women, Jane Austen, Medieval, Tudor England and more! I've also worked with modern pieces, both everyday wear and formal, and I spent over a year training in the alterations department at JCPenneys. I've also taught several classes on beginning sewing.

Never one to be limited to commercial patterns, I am very comfortable altering or creating my own. When I can measure my subject myself, I do like to use my dress form, although for cross-country projects or menswear I do prefer to use a pattern, if only as a very rough sizing guideline. When I do alter or create a pattern, I include this in my project photo diaries, so you can learn my tricks too!

In addition to apparel work, I can also be found sketching designs, quilting, and home decorating. These projects will occasionally find their way onto this blog as well.
